Artist Statement

My work, which I call Surrealist Popart, is purely an expression of my emotions and flow in a meditative and simultaneously exuberant manner. Through characters and faces which occur in my doodling expertise, I express relatable emotions. I would say that my artwork is fun, expressive, and colorful in the simplest terms. Through a soulful and meditative process I create my illustrations, murals, paintings, doodles, and all of my artwork. In my work, I hope to allow for others to experience the emotions in my characters and to enjoy my visual feels.

Doodling is a common human expression and process, and it is through mastering a simple and often overlooked process that I hope inspires more to doodle on their free time, freeing their mind and emotions. Common themes are flow, emotion, love, freedom, hope, and enjoyment. I have been inspired by surrealism and abstraction in my work, as well as purely freedom of expression. Street art, fine art, petroglyphs, and poetry all range in my inspirations to continue to be creative and express myself even when it seems that I have no time to do so. My often freestyle approach to art has allowed me to free my mind. I would love to continue to free myself in painting a mural or doing an illustration for you.

Artist Bio

Sebastien Frank was born in Houston, Texas in 2005. He gained an interest with the visual arts around the age of two, painting with acrylics, brushes, and an easel in his diapers. His parents took him to art museums all of the time because of this very early passion. Gaining much knowledge of the arts at a very young age, he also fell in love with murals and street art. This allowed him to explore the art of spray painting, painting on a wooden mural wall in his backyard. Sebastien has continually experimented with spray painting since this time. Sebastien has skill in aerosol works (mural painting) and illustration. Sebastien has always been an avid doodler, leading to his skill in physical and digital illustration. Sebastien’s current artworks are filled with emotion and usually colorful and flowy characters and doodles. His influences include his time outdoors. Whether in urban environments like the eclectic streets of his current home of Austin, Texas or in natural environments, his explorations outdoors often influence his artistic explorations. One example of outdoor discovery influencing Sebastien’s work is his discovery of Native American petroglyphs in the Southwest. The timelessness of human expression through doodles and linework has inspired his unique and soulful creations. Other influences include his love for music, poetry, and all forms of art. He attended various classes at the Glassell at the Museum of Fine Arts Hosuton from 2010-2015. His work appeared in the Glassell halls, and has been featured in the Houston Art Car Museum and East Austin Studio Tours. He is currently distant schooled with Oak Meadow. He was also privately mentored by local artist Billy “Briks” Jewkes in 2020 who has been a huge inspiration to Sebastien’s unique and stylized works.
